First Pitch at the Red's Game

On September 28, 2007, Boys Hope-View Place scholar Lamar threw the ceremonial first pitch before a Cincinnati Reds baseball game at the Great American Ball Park. Fellow scholar Jaelen accompanied him by catching the pitch. Lamar was chosen to represent Boys Hope Girls Hope at the game because of his improved attitude and grades. Jaelen is a new addition to the Boys Hope Girls Hope family and is adjusting very well to the program. He has the highest GPA in the View Place home. The staff felt that Jaelen deserved the opportunity to represent us at the event.

"It was fun!," Jaelen said. "It was exciting being in front of the crowd of people and being on the Reds field. We were also close to the dugout."

BHGH Board Chair Pat Burke joined the scholars out on the field. Everyone had a great time even though the Reds lost to the Chicago Cubs that evening. The Cubs then advanced to the postseason.

This event would not have been possible if it wasn't for BHGH Board Member Bev Kirby. Bev managed to get four seats along the first base line as well as this opportunity for Lamar and Jaelen. Thanks, Bev, for your support and dedication to our program.

In addition, we would like to thank the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund for donating tickets to the scholars, staff and parents to support Lamar and Jaelen on the field.

BHGH Success Stories

We wouldn't be able to tell our scholars' success stories if it weren't for the hard work and dedication of the our Boys Hope Girls Hope staff. Take a moment and click on the pictures below to learn a little bit more about the people who work with the scholars each and every day.
