Teen Read Week

On November 30, 2007, Boys Hope-View Place celebrated their two consecutive wins for Boys Hope Girls Hope's Teen Read Week competition. Teen Read Week is an annual contest between all of the BHGH affiliates that takes place in the middle of October until Halloween. The houses read books and do activities to earn points. The house with the most points wins the competition. This year, the View Place beat New York by one point (85 points total) and the Upland home came in third place with 43 points.

In 2006, View Place led the competition until the last minute when New York came back and won by two points. However, the judges from the National Office believed that both houses deserved the winner's slot.

In the past, BHGH President Paul Minorini would come to the house dressed like a chicken and provide a pizza party for the winners. This year, he went beyond the norm by providing a barbeque meal with ribs, chicken, greens, mac-n-cheese, and cornbread from Pit To Plate. Most importantly, he came in the chicken suit and took pictures with all of the staff and scholars. It was a night to remember!

BHGH Scholar Member of St. Xavier Football State Championship Team

The Buckeyes attended a recent Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier game to take a look at a Bomber defensive end. Bucknuts.com has the word on the big lineman who is playing high school football for the first time.

In the case of Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier defensive end Boys Hope Girls Hope Scholar Greg, the saying 'better late than never' certainly applies. The 6-foot-5 and 230-pound Scholar, who is a senior at St. Xavier, has not played football since the 6th grade. However he is having an outstanding season and now has close to a half dozen scholarship offers. Greg also has the attention of the Ohio State coaching staff.

"Ohio State came to see me play against Lakewood St. Edward's when we played in Columbus," Greg said. "I talked to coach (John) Peterson on the phone. He said they are strongly interested. He said they are going to keep in touch with me." Greg has anchored one side of the defensive line for St. Xavier and has played a big part as the Bombers have won all nine of their games. Prior to going out for football this season, he has played on the St. Xavier basketball team.
