Learning is Just the BeginningBoys Hope Girls Hope isn't just a program to help kids learn, it provides tools for success, both at school and in life.In 1976, Father Paul Sheridan, S.J., envisioned a program that combined a quality education and a nurturing home environment to benefit at-risk children. These two crucial support systems became Boys Hope Girl Hope and provided stability and positive role models, fostered personal responsibility, and optimized the possibility of these children reaching their full potential. He founded the first Boys Hope in St. Louis, Missouri in 1977. Inspired by Father Sheridan's, a group of house parents from St. Joseph Orphanage, several prominent Cincinnati business leaders, and the president of St. Xavier High School also wanted to create real opportunities for needy Cincinnati youth. Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater Cincinnati opened its first boys' home in 1983, and its second boys' home in 1987. Recognizing the need in the community for a program to include girls, the Girls Hope home was opened in 1998. |
